Alim/Alimah Diploma Overview
The Alim course is an Islamic educational program designed to teach students about the Islamic religion and its teachings. The word “Alim” is an Arabic term that means “scholar,” and an Alim course is typically taken by students who want to become Islamic scholars or leaders.
The Alim course typically covers a wide range of topics related to Islam, including:
Al-Quran (Memorization, Tajweed, Tillawah)
Hadith (Sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad)
Islamic History
Islamic Law
Islamic Spirituality
The length and content of an Alim course may vary depending on the institution offering it and the specific program. Some courses may take several years to complete, while others may be shorter in duration. Generally, Alim courses are designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of Islam and prepare students for leadership roles in Islamic communities.

The material, subjects, and study resources for an Alim course may vary depending on the institution offering it and the specific program. However, here are some common elements that are typically included:
- Quranic Studies: The Alim course typically includes an in-depth study of the Quran, including its interpretation, commentary, and memorization. This may include the study of Arabic grammar and syntax, as well as the science of Quranic exegesis (Tafsir).
- Hadith Studies: The course usually includes a comprehensive study of the Hadith literature, which consists of the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad. This may include the study of the science of Hadith, including the classification and authentication of Hadith.
- Islamic Jurisprudence: The Alim course usually includes the study of Islamic law (Shariah) and its principles. This may include the study of Islamic legal theory (Usul al-Fiqh), the various schools of Islamic jurisprudence (Madhabs), and the application of Islamic law to various situations.
- Islamic History: The course typically covers the history of Islam and the Islamic civilization, including the life and times of the Prophet Muhammad, the early Muslim community, the history of Islamic empires, and the contributions of Muslim scholars and scientists.
- Islamic Spirituality: The Alim course usually includes the study of Islamic spirituality and the practice of Islamic rituals, including prayer, fasting, charity, and pilgrimage.
Teaching Methods and Strategies
Our teaching methods are based on the principle of active learning, where the learner is continuously engaged, and learner-centered teaching, as the learner is the core of the educational process.
The teaching process in each session follows three stages:
- Introductory:The lesson is presented interactively.
- Explanatory:An interactive process between the teacher and the student to clarify fine details.
- Personal:The application stage where the student demonstrates their understanding and mastery of the information.
Homework plays a significant role in our mission with students. We assign practical tasks that align with Bloom’s Taxonomy cognitive progression for educational goals.
Study Resources
In terms of study resources, students in an Alim course typically use a variety of textbooks, lectures, and other materials to supplement their learning. Some common study resources include:
- Islamic Textbooks: Students may use textbooks written by Muslim scholars to study various subjects, such as Quranic studies, Hadith studies, Islamic law, and Islamic history.
- Lectures: Students may attend lectures given by Islamic scholars on various topics, or watch recordings of lectures online.
- Online Resources: Students may use online resources, such as Islamic websites and online libraries, to access Islamic texts and other study materials.
- Study Groups: Students may form study groups with their peers to review and discuss course material.
The course is usually taught in Arabic, the language of the Quran and the primary language of Islamic scholarship. However, we also offer the course in English for non-Arabic speakers. We advise students to learn Arabic Fusha (Quranic Arabic) alongside the Alim course.
